Standing Alone

When the smoke starts fading away and the dust begins to settle down, when your eyes start adjusting to the blur staring in your eyes, you press your eyes to focus better to the consequences awaiting you. When the tears stop, when the vision comes back, you find yourself surrounded by nobody; not your family nor your friends. Just no one but the uneasy quiet playing with your head and the crumbled pieces of a shattered house telling you of loss. In all this you find yourself standing alone, all over again. You are not startled, you’re not afraid. You ask yourself, hasn’t it always been like that?
